I have a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Tampa College and a Master of Social Work from Alabama A&M University. I am certified as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with my Private Independent Practice Certification in Social Case Work and Clinical Practice. The first 17 years of my social work career was spent working in the child welfare system. Much of my work centered around working with youth in the Independent Living Program (ILP). Working with this population was challenging but rewarding. The next 5 years have been spent working with the Behavioral Health patients in a hospital setting. Here, my focus has been the geriatric population suffering from major neurocognitive disorder. In this position, I have also been afforded the opportunity to advise social work students and provide clinical supervision to Master level social workers. It is my sincere hope that my years of experience will allow me the chance to provide sound, competent and genuine counseling services to the community in need.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, with 20 years of experience including, agency, school, residential, and inpatient. My clients include adolescents and adults from diverse backgrounds. In addition to treating clients with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse, I also specialize with working clients who struggle with identity, thoughts/emotions, unresolved childhood trauma, and grief.
The therapeutic relationship is vital to the healing process. Establishing a rapport with my clients, is foundational in the development of their growth and change. I collaborate with my client to achieve their goal, even if the goal is to figure out what the goal is. I help clients navigate through their varying thought processes and overwhelming feelings. In our sessions, I create a safe environment through honesty, awareness, humor, respect, and hope.
My goal is to help my client become the healthiest version of themselves. This is accomplished through truth, being nonjudgmental, and acceptance. This is a process! It takes time, commitment, and being vulnerable. You are worth it! I want to support you in your journey of self-discovery, wellness, wholeness, and freedom.
At some point in our lives, we all need help adjusting to the change’s life brings about. My passion is helping clients who face adversity find healthy perspectives to incorporate into their everyday lives. I aim to help clients develop and strengthen relationships. This is an essential factor as having and developing relationships is an intricate but essential part of life. It is my goal to help clients cultivate serenity in their lives. My counseling approach combines a person-centered, solution-focused, and strengths-based outlook. All with the ending goal to focus on the individual need of each client and assist each client-facing challenge to develop the tools needed to resolve conflict and cope.
